INTERVIEW: Martina Di Giammichele
Can you introduce yourself? IMy name is Martina Di Giammichele and I am a paper restorer. I studied in Florence, where I began working. Almost three years ago, however, I began my adventure in the Vatican. I moved to Rome and began working first for the Vatican Apostolic Archives and now I work for the Vatican Apostolic Library. Before starting my career in restoration, I was simply a huge book lover, and today I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work in the most prestigious place in the world, for me! How did you start collecting books or developing an interest in art and culture? I My interest in art and culture has ancient roots; since I was a child, I've always been passionate about colors and painting. As I grew older, I developed a strong interest in words. I needed to express the world within me, so I began writing novels, and it was then that I understood the importance of books as objects. A book gains importance based on the humanity left within it: a thought, a sentenc
